2. Make a Bulk Billed Appointment

A Behavioural Optometrist is an Optometrist with a special interest in children’s visual development, with a particular emphasis on those who experience learning problems like dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, Asperges or developmental delays.

This passion has developed because Darin has seen people he loves struggling through their schooling, and so he is dedicated to doing everything possible to help kids in need.

When you visit a Behavioural Optometrist, you will immediately notice the difference. Rather than churning people through selling glasses, you will discover a dedicated professional who genuinely cares for kids, especially those who struggle.  At Eye CU Optometrist, we work hard to relate to your child, because unless we can communicate with them we cannot provide the highest level of care for them. We also offer treatment options others do not have, using lenses and eye exercises to target eye problems, many of which can have a major impact on learning.

Darin is a Sunshine Coast behavioural optometrist who has been practicing for over 30 years, constantly generating great results, which is why so many schools, reading tutors, and school counselors refer children to Darin Browne at Eye CU Optometrist.

Has your child already had an eye exam at another Optometrist?

That’s OK, come and see us anyway. We will not charge you to examine your child, even if they have seen another Sunshine Coast Optometrist.

Darin promises that he will sit and explain exactly how your child’s vision problems affect their learning, and he will also clearly explain what you can do about it. What is the point of testing something when I cannot help you to overcome it?
Darin spends a lot of time talking to mums and dads just like you.  This is to help you understand exactly what is going on with their child’s eyes and learning, enabling you to make informed decisions as to how you want to help your child! As parents, you don’t just want the opinions of a behavioral optometrist, you need to make sure you understand how you can solve the problems and see your child improve in school.

3. Choose How to Treat the Visual Problem

A Behavioural Optometrist is not about selling glasses,  but rather he is about giving you all the information you need as a parent to make the right decision for your child.

That’s why Darin takes the time to explain everything to you about your child’s vision, and he also explains exactly how the various conditions can affect their school performance.

He will then give you a series of choices about how you want to treat your child, and what he believes can be done to help your child.  These may include special glasses, vision therapy or sometimes just advice.

And you will not be forced into certain actions against your will… Darin is passionate about simply outlining the best mode of treatment, and YOU CAN CHOOSE TO DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO!

Finally, every grade-school-age child receives a complimentary vision report, one that you do not have to pay for, so you can show this to teachers, tutors, support teachers or any other interested party.

We are as close as your phone! It will cost you absolutely nothing to have a comprehensive vision examination for your child, even if your child has recently had an eye examination elsewhere at another optometrist.

Darin always asks you to sit in on the consultation, and he encourages you to ask as many questions as you want.

We are confident that you will understand the visual issues your child faces. We want all parents to see what happens in one of our behavioural eye tests, ask questions and get involved with the process.  Why?  Because you are the parent, and therefore you have the right to understand what is happening with your child.

In the end, Darin will clearly lay out how you can help your child, and he will explain exactly what you need to do, so you can understand and make the right decisions.  That’s why he is the Behavioural Optometrist Sunshine Coast parents often turn to help them with their child’s vision and development.

Why a Children’s Optometrist instead of the local Spectacle Chain?

Vision is important.  It’s important in life, and it is especially important in the classroom. Studies show that vision is the dominant sense in the classroom, with up to 80% of all information coming in via the eyes. As we grow, all of us learn visual skills which help us reading, spelling and writing. In fact, development depends on learning these skills at the right time and in the correct order.

The most frequent symptom of vision difficulty is not sore eyes, headaches or blurriness, it is poor concentration, something you frequently find among children with learning disabilities when they face school work or computer studies (but not computer games… there’s a reason for that, ask Darin later).

Why Consider Darin Browne and Eye CU Optometrist?

As a Behavioural Optometrist for over 30 years, Darin promises he’s not motivated by money or sales in glasses, but by seeing children who were once struggling at school triumph over their learning difficulties and become successful students.

“My goals are your goals when it comes to helping children,” says Darin. “I have decided to focus on helping children with learning disabilities improve their concentration, motivation and to help them obtain the visual skills they require to shine in their academic endeavours.  I use glasses and vision therapy exercises for children that I have designed myself and tested over years.”

After years of practice as a children’s optometrist, these are not idle words.  Darin is a developmental optometrist with a proven track record for helping kids, and regularly receives referrals from most of the major schools on the Sunshine Coast, some close and some as far away as Gympie, Caboolture or Kingaroy.

“Plus,” says Darin, ” I have designed an exclusive therapy program especially for children with learning disabilities which is a lot more than just a string and bead exercise! In it we train skills like focus, visual memory, eye teaming, hand-eye, directions and fine and gross motor. By investing only 20 minutes a day you can radically enhance your child’s learning skills, from learning to hold a pencil to the basics of forming letters, right through to reading flow, following without losing their place and comprehension.” If your child can learn these important basic skills, school can become fun and learning is easy!

Your Child is not a Miniature Adult!

Your child is not a little adult, so why should their eyes be treated like they are adults.  Kid’s eyes are still developing, so their needs are different, their ability to cope with stress is also different and the pressures they face are not the same as an adult. Trust me, there is more to testing a child’s eyes than measuring how farsighted or nearsighted they are! Your child deserves the best eye test and most innovative treatment available, from someone who is passionate about helping them, competently trained and farsighted in his approach.

At Eye CU, we are different.  How different?  We’re so different, we want you to sit in and see for yourself, and understand why we would recommend certain lenses or therapies.

At Eye CU, we take time to serve you and your children are treated like Rock Stars!

So for a better experience, for a complete behavioural optometrist eye test for children, and for a local Optometrist who takes the time to listen to you and explain what is going on,

We’ll See You at Eye CU, your Sunshine Coast Behavioural Optometrist!
